Try this family favourite recipe idea using Norfolk’s Simpleas Mince 

Simpleas Mince, made by Norwich company Novo Farina, is the first British made non-soya plant-based dried mince. It is made from 100 per cent peas – no additional ingredients at all – and is vegan, gluten-free, high-protein, high-fibre, non-soya, non-GMO.

It can be used for all your favourite mince-based recipes including bolognese sauce, lasagne, cottage pie, chilli, tacos and curries.

BOLOGNESE
Serves 4

INGREDIENTS

1 red onion, chopped

1 clove of garlic, minced

150g of Simpleas Mince

1tbsp of tomato purée

400g tin tomatoes

200g of tomato passata

2 tbsp of red wine (optional)

2 stalks celery, finely chopped

1 carrot, finely chopped

METHOD
Soak the Simpleas Mince in 400ml of boiling water or vegetable stock. Cover and set aside for 20 mins

Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan, and cook the onion for 5 mins until soft. Add the garlic and cook for a further minute

Add the Simpleas Mince along with any remaining liquid, the rest of the ingredients, and a further 200ml of water or stock to a pan

Simmer for 30 mins

Season to taste and cook for a further 15-30 minutes until tender

Serve with pasta of your choice and top with a grating of Parmesan, Pecorino or vegan cheese
