'I developed this recipe when I was a member of an Anglo Saxon group called Ordgar. I wanted a tasty simple recipe which only used ingredients available locally in Saxon times. I am also a very fussy eater, so I wanted something that I would like and enjoy. It is a meal that can be cooked in a cauldron over a fire and if you leave the stew to marinate overnight after cooking, the mushrooms soak in the apple flavour and are delicious.'
