A Norfolk Food Illustrator 2Who are you and what do you do?
I am Sharon Farrow and I’m an illustrator specialising in mixed media.

Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I grew up in Norfolk, attending Attleborough High School and City College, Norwich, but I’ve lived in London for most of my adult life.  I love coming back to Norfolk to visit, walking in the countryside or at the coast.

Where did you train?
I took an Art Foundation at Norwich School of Art where I specialised in Fine Art, but I haven’t specifically studied illustration.  Over the years I have taken many short courses in design, drawing and painting, and illustration. It took me a while to find my feet and discover illustration really!

Where do you find your inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere. Sometimes I’ll be out and about and I’ll see some colours together and that will spark an idea or something will pop randomly into my head! I scribble any ideas down, (often just a random word) otherwise I would forget. This list is enormously helpful when I’m coming to create some new personal work. Often nothing may come of the original idea but it may spark off something else. Making small sketches also helps I find. I feel free with my ideas when I’m doing that, and because they don’t have to be ‘good’ they often help me in making decisions about how to go forward with an idea.

Also I find travelling or visiting a place always inspires me. I really enjoy creating images about places or something I will have seen, eaten or experienced there. Food and the natural world are two things I love drawing, so those inspire me also.

Are you a keen foodie?
I do enjoy food, and nowadays I really enjoy cooking. I wouldn’t say that’s always been the case.  I do like cooking from scratch, and I often tend to make things up as I go along even if I’m working from a recipe.  Sometimes this works, sometimes it’s a fail. I like to make healthy meals that are quick to prepare. I also love trying different foods, and I’ve definitely been introduced to lots of different cuisines through being in London, meeting people from all over the world.

Where can we buy your work?
I have a website,, which I update with my new work.

Any future plans you can share with us?
My future plans include hopefully working on more commissions, and I also want to make more products for my shop. I’d love to make some larger scale pieces, and try new printing techniques.
