As Father’s Day looms on June 20, Feast offers a few great gift ideas for your dad!
The team at Moon Gazer Ale has launched a rather special beer, Bob’s Tail, which will make a very special Father’s Day gift, as well as being a perfect ale to be savoured with the family.
At 8.8% abv, this strong ale is designed to be supped gently and enjoyed like a fine wine – indeed its style is a contemporary twist on an old barley wine.
The beer, brewed with the finest Maris Otter and Chevalier barley combined with hops from both Britain and the USA, is bottle conditioned and with that level of alcohol will improve over several years, if you can wait that long!
It has a hazy amber colour with a big fruity nose and a strong hint of toffee, with spicy hops and a freshly-baked bread note. There is burnt fruit and mint build in the mouth, balanced by spicy hops and biscuit malt. Simply yummy!
Deborah Steward’s tasty range of jams, chutneys, relishes, cookies and more is called Lil’ Miggins (after the family cat) and we love her collection of chutneys for £14.75. The Chutney Lover’s Gift Trio includes Grandad’s Chutney, Nanny’s Chutney and an Indian Spiced Squash Chutney. Each has its own distinctive flavour and is handmade at the family home in North Norfolk.
- Delivery is free on orders over £14.75, too!
As a special one-off Father’s Day treat, Great Yarmouth-based brewer Lacons has teamed up with the knowledgeable team at cheese specialists, Slate in Suffolk, to offer a Deluxe Beer and Cheese Pairing Box at £40.
The talented bunch at Slate has come up with three brilliant East Anglian cheeses, St Jude’s, a soft cheese made with raw milk from the Waveney Valley, Baron Bigod, a brie like cheese from Fen Farm Dairy in Suffolk, and Norfolk Dapple, a Cheddar like cheese from Ferndale Cheese in Little Barningham in North Norfolk, to pair with Lacons’ Legacy, Encore, and Affinity. Each box also includes pretzels and a box of crackers! Simply add some chutney and a pork pie or two!
Emporium Norwich is a small, family-run business whose main product is called breegahdayro which is a traditional Brazilian style chocolate with a creamy, velvet and rich texture. They have teamed up with Jonathan and Alison Redding of Norwich-based Norfolk Gin to create a rather marvellous Father’s Day hamper, packed with delicious goodies. It includes a box of eight gin-infused truffles in four different flavours – lime, ginger and tonic; sumac, chamomile and tonic; raspberry, hibiscus, lime and tonic; and orange, cinnamon, mint and tonic – plus two bags of cocoa-dusted mixed nuts covered with the finest Belgian callebaut chocolate and flavoured with a touch of gin. Add in a handmade Father’s Day card, too – and note that the wooden crate is reusable. It’s a perfect gift for the chocoholic in the house!
Humpty Dumpty Brewery
Based in Reedham in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, this multi-award winning brewery has been producing cracking real ales since 1998. The range includes Little Sharpie (3.8% abv golden), Swallowtail (4% abv amber) and Broadland Sunrise (4.2% abv orange/red) which can be found in many pubs, clubs and farm shops across the region. Their on-site shop (Church Road, NR13 3TZ) is open every day from noon to 5pm over the summer months, with take-out draught beer and cider, a wide range of Humpty and guest bottled beers, local ciders and apple juices, gins and wines, cookies and chocolates, sauces and oils, coffees and cakes, preserves and honey and more!

Well! Take one gin lover and one Norwich City footie lover and you have a match made in heaven. Bullards Spirits, a Norwich-based gin distiller, has launched a new gin called Goin Up, a limited edition gin produced to celebrate Norwich City’s promotion to the Premier League. Just 2021 bottles of the gin, flavoured with lemon and lemongrass, have been made and the bottle is a Canary yellow, of course!
The company’s founder Russell Evans says: ‘As the Spirit of Norwich and official gin partner of the club, we are super proud of our boys at Norwich City Football Club on their fantastic achievement this season.’
- The gin can be bought online or at Bullards’ Chantry Place store.
Norfolk Raider Cider
Norfolk Raider Cider, based on the outskirts of Norwich, provides the perfect treat for Father’s Day. This lovely local cider, made by traditional methods, is named after the Norfolk ‘Raiders’ who flew from the B24 Liberator bombing base at Norwich Airport during the Second World War.
Paul and Beth Cork, who own Norfolk Raider, have a wide range of special offers for Father’s Day, from a gift pack of three 500ml bottles for £12 to a mixed box of 12 bottles for only £40 (normally £50). They also offer two-pint take-away deals, perfect for picnics, and even bags in boxes, ranging from 3 to 20 litres in size.
And new for 2021 is the Norfolk Raider Cider Vinegar collection which is perfect for foodie dads!
