Try a new sparkling red from Chet Valley Vineyard with your Christmas lunch
If you are looking for a great festive fizz for this Christmas, Chet Valley Vineyard has something new for you to enjoy – Red Kite Brut Sparkling, the first red sparkling wine to be produced in the East of England.
Wine maker John Hemmant says: ‘This wine is perfect for Christmas Day. It is a gorgeous colour, light and refreshing, and it goes so well with poultry – especially turkey!
‘Red Kite has light tannins, is ruby in colour, and has notes of cherries and cranberries. It even complements rich flavours such as Christmas cake and pudding, making it ideal for the festive season.’
The wine, made entirely from the Regent red grape, is produced by the classic British method, meaning that it is fermented a second time in the bottle at Chet Valley Vineyard, at Bergh Apton, near Loddon, and is made the same way as Champagne.
It is a great addition to the vineyard’s expanding range of sparkling wines – now five in total, meaning that there is something for every taste. As well as Red Kite Brut sparkling, the vineyard also makes Horatio 2016 Rosé Brut, Skylark Brut 2017, Skylark Blush Brut 2018 and Skylark 2018 Blush demi sec.
If Red Kite doesn’t take your fancy, John’s premier fizz is the Horatio – or Ho Ho Horatio at this time of year! ‘Our wines are perfect for a celebration – large or small,’ says John. ‘As we go into the strangest Christmas many of us have ever known, we all need something to cheer us up!’
