Andrew Jones, chef patron of The Dial House in Reepham and Farmyard in Norwich, is gearing up to welcome guests back
Running an empty restaurant hasn’t been much fun although I’m pleased to say we haven’t spent much time fretting (aside from home schooling which was all pretty stressful!). We’ve saturated the last 12 months pouring over business models and digging into small details to ensure we reopen in the best possible way and come back with a nice loud bang.
From customer surveys to financial deep diving and reading about other business models, put it like this – we haven’t had as much time as we first planned to catch up on daytime telly in our pants.
We also launched a brand new business ‘Farmyard Frozen’ during lockdown. An idea born from endless family cooking between work and home schooling, and a real feeling of boredom of supermarket treat food which all seem to be made from low grade quality meat and too much sugar and fat.
After many months of tests and trials we’re really proud of this new offering and challenge you to taste the difference between our signature Farmyard Chocolate bar within Farmyard restaurant and Farmyard Frozen one. From May, you’ll start to see the range appear across a few hand selected retail shops across the county and we’ll also be able to deliver direct to your door, wherever that may be.
And now, as the sun and spring bulbs begin to appear, both teams at Farmyard and The Dial House are back in full swing with wine training, visiting farms and taste tasting, all ready for their big old comeback.
Arguably the most exciting thing that the last 12 months has provided over anything else is of course the chance to become a real wine buff. If only we’d made notes!
