This year, more than ever, we need something to celebrate and the Market Weekend aims to do just that. Our county is famous for the abundance and diversity of its produce and we have an opportunity this September to revel in the joys of delicious, honest food of the highest quality. Around 60 well-known Suffolk producers will be taking part, each one carefully placed in the idyllic grounds of Snape Maltings.
Although there won’t be the usual live chef demonstrations or masterclasses we hope to capture as much of the Festival spirit as possible, with musical entertainment, street food and refreshments. The fascinating Snape Maltings shop and the Concert Hall Café will also be open to visitors.
Since the end of March it hasn’t always been easy getting regular food supplies from our usual sources and many of the local producers have found the changing situation difficult to manage.
It’s important that we, as a not-for-profit organisation, continue to promote and support the Suffolk food and drink businesses. For those who admire and appreciate the role of the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival, we ask that a donation be made to secure the event next year and thereafter. Please visit our funding website www.crowdfunder.co.uk/future-proof-aldeburgh-food-drink-festival
Following the weekend, there will, as usual, be several independently hosted fringe events taking place around Suffolk, offering an opportunity to see the industry experts on their home ground.
Of course, we want to ensure that the event will be safe as well as enjoyable. It will be held in accordance with 2m social distancing rules, there will be no large marquees and stall holders will have individually spaced gazebos. To comply with these rules, the number of people on site will be limited and free entry will be by pre-booked, time-allocated, ticket only. Visitor flow will be monitored at separate entrance and exit points. Where possible, payments to stall holders will be contactless.
