Sarah Daniels, chair of Proudly Norfolk, tells us about the group’s new App

Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do
I am Sarah Daniels, Chair of Proudly Norfolk Food and Drink. And for my ‘day job’, I am the founder of The RedCat Partnership Ltd, a health and safety consultancy and training business, and also the founder of No8 Thorpe Road, a flexible office space opposite the railway station in Norwich

And a little bit about Proudly Norfolk?
Proudly Norfolk exists with the sole purpose of supporting, promoting and celebrating our members. Members are food and drink businesses of all shapes and sizes. We have members who are growers, retailers, producers, manufacturers and those within the hospitality sector.

We hear you have a new App – what can you tell us about it?
We worked with one of our longstanding supporters 101 Websites, Apps & Email Marketing to develop the App, and it is about supporting the community, but providing a fabulously accessible means of gaining rewards from our members, with discounts that you won’t find anywhere else.

What made you decide to invest in one?
We were very good within PN at the business to business community, but when we couldn’t run and attend events we wanted to help our members, and the App was a natural solution. It is free to download, and has a flexible platform so rewards can change. It also enables us to reach a wider audience than a face to face festival.

Proudly Norfolk and the App are supported by our sponsors, so we are very grateful to Lovewell Blake, Norfolk Cottages, The Norfolk Hub, Woodfordes Brewery and The RedCat Partnership.

What can PN offer its members?
It offers an empathetic community of like minded businesses, and the chance to be part of an established but modern well-respected brand. It offers greater marketing reach via the App, our website, and our social media channels (Insta, twitter, Facebook, and Linked In) and also networking and knowledge sharing.

How do those interested join up and how much is it?
Proudly Norfolk Food and Drink is open to all food and drink businesses who are based or have a significant impact within Norfolk, and annual membership starts at just £50 per year, so less than £1 per week!

Last year we also introduced an associate category for those businesses who work with and for food and drink businesses. These have their own category on our website and on the App.

Is there a typical member?
Yes and no! We have a really broad brush of sizes, but the common denominator is their pride in being Proudly Norfolk

How have they all fared in the pandemic? How have you been able to support them?
Again this has been a mixed bag, most businesses have done well, and have really benefited from being close to their customers and able to fulfil the market during the last year. We supported members with a free membership period through Lockdown #1, we have continued with our networking/ knowledge sharing over Zoom, and we have a closed Facebook group for member questions and chat. We also have a very knowledgeable board, and a host of patrons and supporters who have continued to offer guidance and the occasional virtual hug!

What are you hoping to organise for 2021 – dare we ask?!
Good question, we wish we had a crystal ball! But we are aiming to host a Proudly Norfolk event with Richardsons of Stalham on October 10.
