Life on Intwood Farm is busy as Christmas approaches
Christmas may well look different this year but we all still want to celebrate with family and friends. Delicious food remains the focal point of celebrations and shopping locally has never been more important.
Provenance is key to eating well, sustainability should matter to us all, and if you can get your goodies delivered – even better!
Intwood Farm, just outside Norwich, is one of this year’s great success stories. The Darling family, headed up by dad Nigel and daughter Camilla, decided to open a butchery at the farm, to sell their own homegrown beef, pork, and lamb earlier this year.
The 450-acre farm is home to about 300 head of cattle, including Welsh Black, Highland and Hereford. The sheep are Poll Dorset (which lamb all year round) and the pigs include British Lop and Saddleback, both rare breeds.
The family converted the old dairy into a state-of-the-art butchery, run by Master Butcher Andy Platten, and they now deliver across the region and beyond, as well as offering a click and collect service at the farm.
Camilla explains that Sutton Hoo free range chickens and Great Grove Norfolk Bronze turkeys are available for Christmas, as well as Intwood Farm rib of beef, gammon joints, artisan sausages, bacon and other cuts of meat – with the beef looking especially delicious. ‘We also have a range of sauces, oils and condiments, jams, preserves, chutneys and free range eggs,’ says Camilla, adding that Christmas puddings, black puddings and stuffing mixes are all on offer for the festive period.
A tasty new addition is smoked salmon from Staithe Smokehouse, based at Brancaster Staithe in North Norfolk. It is a real favourite at Christmas, served as say a starter on the Big Day, or as a lovely brunch with fluffy scrambled eggs on Boxing Day.
To make life even easier, the farm offers a selection of well priced boxes, including a Christmas Box at £24.95 which includes bacon, sausages, sausage meat, stuffing and sauces – a great basis to start your Christmas food shop.
For those of us who enjoy the finer things in life, quality (as well as animal welfare) is guaranteed at Intwood. The cattle are grass fed and looked after to the highest standard. The farm, having its own state of the art butchery, then hangs the beef for a minimum of 21 days to ensure premium flavour and tenderness.
Much of the farm’s business is from repeat customers who simply fall in love with the flavour and quality of the meat provided by Intwood.
The farm has won its first restaurant contract so you can enjoy Intwood burgers at Harry’s in Chapelfield Garden in the city. Products are also stocked at Cringleford Stores which is very near the farm, the Walled Garden Shop in Little Plumstead, and P&K Harrod Newsagents in Oulton Broad.

Orders are now being taken for Christmas. Delivery slots are available from December 21-24, with limited delivery slots on December 24. The last dispatch for national deliveries is noon on December 22. Orders close for meat on December 10. You can also book a click and collect option.
