Get your Valentine dinner à deux from Intwood Farm, just outside Norwich, says Sarah Hardy
Intwood Farm, near Norwich, is a one stop virtual shop for your perfect, local Valentine’s supper, with their own farm fresh meats, beautiful seafood from North Norfolk, various regional cheeses and even local chocolate!
The farm, set in 450 acres of mixed arable land south of Norwich and run by the Darling family, is home to Highland, Hereford and Welsh Black cattle, plus rare breed Saddleback and British Lop pigs and a flock of Poll Dorset sheep which lamb all year round.
Last year, the family converted an old dairy into a state-of-the-art butchery, run by Master Butcher Andy Platten, pictured right, and they now deliver across the region and beyond, as well as offering a click and collect service at the farm.
For a mouth watering Valentine’s treat, you could start with smoked salmon, scallops, crevettes or a seafood platter from Staithe Smokehouse at Brancaster Staithe in North Norfolk, then move onto a tremendous steak: sirloin, rump, fillet, ribeye, t-bone or tomahawk, all expertly prepared by butcher Andy and hung for a minimum of 21 days.
The farm stocks a range of artisan cheeses, including the ever popular Baron Bigod from Fen Farm Dairy, near Bungay. Look out for the cute heart-shaped version which is simply perfect for Valentine’s.
Finally, the farm, run by Nigel Darling and his daughter, Camilla, has a new stockist: Lifetime of Chocolate, run by Chloe Saterlay which is based in nearby Honingham. It is another small, independent and passionately-run business which has lovely truffles, a chocolate Prosecco heart and even a hot chocolate bombe to add to your order!
Aside from the Valentine’s goodies, Intwood Farm has a tasty range of nine artisan sausages, including a gluten free version, roasting joints, mince, bacon, gammon steaks, burgers, and poultry from Sutton Hoo in Suffolk. Eggs and a comprehensive selection of oils, sauces and condiments such as Hillfarm rapeseed oil are available, too.
Camilla also adds that the farm’s meat boxes are very popular and good value. The luxury family meat box at £49.95 has three options while the Feed the Family box at £29.95 includes all the ingredients (and more) for an ever-popular spaghetti bolognese, including the pasta!
Each month Intwood Farm release their recipe of the month and this month it is for mouth watering Duck Breasts with Vicar of Beighton Sauce. Click here for the recipe, and special offer. To help us get cooking, they also have a special bundle on offer for February, and whilst stocks last, for the main ingredients needed!
