WIN - Tickets to Family-Friendly Spring Fling
One of Norfolk’s most popular family-friendly events takes place
next month - and we have a competition to win tickets to it
Easter sees many of Norfolk’s leading attractions opening for the new season and many great events taking place. A very popular family-friendly one is The Norfolk Spring Fling which returns to the Norfolk Showground on April 10 - for a remarkable 19th year!
The day out is aimed at children aged between 4-11 years, and is a great opportunity to learn about the countryside, agriculture, food and farming - especially the link between the countryside and what appears on our plates.
This year, as well as more than 70 interactive stands and Spring Fling favourites such as The Sheep Show, there are two new areas.
The Emergency Services Zone is a hands-on experience with demonstrations and activities, and the chance to meet local emergency service teams. It also provides a brilliant opportunity to learn about the vital services that they provide across Norfolk.
Mr Mawkin’s Machinery is another new area dedicated to tractors and farm machinery. Children will have the opportunity to ride combine harvesters and try out tractors.
Mr Mawkin’s Farm, the petting farm and animal meet and greet, is now housed in its very own farming shed. The new location means little ones can meet even more animals than in previous years and Mr Mawkin, the friendly scarecrow.
Visitors can also have a go at making their own flavoured crisps with Kettle Foods, explore the roots of dairy farming and how ice-cream is made with Danns Ice Cream and learn how to make goats’ cheese with Fielding Cottage.
Tony Bellinger, Education Manager for the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association and the Food and Farming Discovery Trust, says: ‘At the RNAA we are committed to teaching and helping children understand about the countryside, food and farming from a young age. It’s important for not just children but the whole family to learn about where their food comes from and through Norfolk Spring Fling. we’re able to do this in a way that’s fun and educational.’
• Tickets cost £9.50 and include a hog roast lunch (or vegetarian option) and an apple juice drink. Tickets can be bought online from www.springfling.rnaa.org.uk. Children age two and under have free entry, but food and drink is not included. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The event runs from 9.30am until 3.30pm.
